Pate Family

My Mother Jeanette PATE BAKER, 1936

The PATE family lived in Monterey, California. I believe they may have come from Indiana or Ohio, as shown in the 1830 and 1850 census. My great grandfather is John PATE. When, how and why they came to California are mysteries at this point. John married Maria VASQUEZ around 1900 and they had several children, Teaby (named for the family doctor), Stewart, John, and Henry, my grandfather. They lived on Abrego Street in Monterey. Around 1930, Henry met Violet FREASE, by all accounts, quite a willful girl. They had but one child, my mother. They divorced. Henry rests in the Golden Gate Veterans Cemetery in San Bruno, California.

I regret that some of the below documents aren't very legible in the larger version. After you get to the larger image, leave your mouse on the image and a colored square may appear in the lower right corner of the image. If you click on that square, the image will enlarge even further and become clearer. I'm not sure if this will work with all computers?
