Shirley's Ancestors

Unfortunatley like a lot of us, I didn't think to ask very many questions about family history when my parents and grandparents were still alive. Growing up in Southern New Mexico where we had no other relatives close by, I didn't have an opportunity to know many of my extended family members.

My mother and father met during WWII when my dad was stationed at the Pyote Army Air Base in Pyote Texas. After my dad shipped out, he kept in touch with mom by cards, letters and photos. My mom, Floy Christine BRANTLEY, traveled by train from Pyote Texas to my dad's home town, Baltimore Maryland, in 1947. They were married shortly after her arrival. After their return to Pyote, they both worked at the Air Base until it was scheduled for closure. We then moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1954. They transferred to White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). My Dad worked at WSMR until his death on 01 March 1977. Over the years, my mother worked at WSMR, Montgomery Wards and New Mexico State University. She was retired at the time of her death from leukemia on 01 March 1992 (15 years to the day from Dad's death).

I was raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico . I worked for the Federal Government in the Procurement field for most of the years from 1973 until my retirement in 1999. I met and married Ron in 1979. We have three children. James, Douglas and Lucy. I have one younger brother, James and one older sister, Judy.

I would very much like to find out when my great grandparents, John Flint and Ola MCKENZIE SHEETS, died and where they are buried. I think that is my brick wall for the moment. They were alive in 1911 when my grandmother was born in Fouke, Arkansas. But when my grandmother, Hadgie Amby SHEETS BRANTLEY PARKER was a small child, she was living with relatives because her parents had died.

I extend a special thank you to all the people what have contributed family information. I definitely would not have been as far along on most of my ancestors without your help! This is my first attempt at organizing a web site and I'm sure I will be making many changes to it in the future and I welcome your comments and/or suggestions.

I have several photos that I cannot identify. I would appreciate it if you would click on "Shirley's Unknown Photos" button below and have a look to see if you recognize anyone.
